Supporting the Role of Women in Economic, Political, and Social Affairs

Heartland International encourages the participation of women in emerging democratic institutions. Women are often ignored in an economic analysis, despite being primary providers of basic needs like food, clothing, shelter, and whatever is necessary for family survival. Everywhere women are determining that they alone are responsible for changing their future and are, therefore, organizing politically at the village level, in urban environments and on the national and international scenes.

Heartland International works closely with leading international women's organizations in the design and implementation of programs such as:

  • Tanzanian Association for Women Entrepreneurs (TAWE), an association designed by Tanzanian women, with assistance from Heartland International, to help develop the businesses of women entrepreneurs and to promote voices for change.

  • a forum for the dialogue between women from the Kenya Women's Organization (KANU Maendeleo Ya Wanake) and women across the United States.

  • Women's Leadership Belarus, a training program for women across Belarus focusing on leadership development and advocacy.

  • Heartland International encourages the participation of greater numbers of women in all of its international training programs.

  • As a women-managed organization, Heartland International provides opportunities for women who are interested in expanding their career potential in the international affairs field.
