Supporting the Role of Women in Economic, Political, and Social Affairs

Heartland International encourages the participation of women in emerging democratic institutions. Women are often ignored in an economic analysis, despite being primary providers of basic needs like food, clothing, shelter, and whatever is necessary for family survival. Heartland International works closely with leading international women's organizations in the design and implementation of various programs.

Heartland International is currently working to facilitate the growth of TAWE with its LEAD Program:

L.E.A.D. Program:

  • Participants: women entrepreneurs from across Tanzania

  • Goals: to improve small, women-run businesses through the strengthening of TAWE; improve individual leadership through mentoring

  • Time Frame: on-going
