Forum for the Exchange of Ideas and the Growth of Mutual Understanding

Heartland International practices the conviction that the free exchange of ideas is critical to fostering the growth of democracy and free enterprise. Today's world is rife with examples of what happens to the growth of civil society when individual and group freedoms are curtailed or hindered. When policymakers, at all levels, meet and exchange democratic ideas and principles with their counterparts from other nations, individual societies benefit.

To foster this dialogue, Heartland International has conducted programs such as:

  • a forum for educational policy planners from Ethiopia, Namibia, and Uganda in which participants discussed common elements of a civic education curriculum.

  • a network of organizations and individuals that serves as a resource and as a forum for the exchange of new ideas.

  • public presentations by distinguished guest speakers several times a year.

  • the publication of a quarterly newsletter that serves as a source of information and commentary on current issues from a variety of Midwestern perspectives.
